When it becomes difficult to find the exact pattern you have in mind for a certain page, it is better to just make your own! Create scrapbooking paper piecing patterns For example, you want to design a scrapbook page for a graduation celebration titled, Up, Up, and Away! You could use a hot air balloon on the background rising up in the sky along with the graduate's pictures. Find a balloon picture online to use as a reference for making the paper piece pattern. Scan the picture into your computer, edit the size if needed, and print a copy. Cover the picture with white tracing paper and trace a pattern of the copied image in the exact size needed for the finished product. Each part of the image should be traced separately. Trace a section for each color and pattern of the balloon such as red, blue, or stripes. Design a base where all the separate paper pieces can be attached together. For instance, trace the outline of the balloon and cut out the shape using white cardstock to serve as the foundation. Trace the pattern for the balloon basket. To use the pattern in creating the paper piecing, cut out the shapes, and glue them to the desired colored cardstock. You may want to use tape until you are sure of the positioning before gluing. Then cut out the cardstock patterned shape for the perfect paper pieces. Assemble the pieces and add embellishments such as stars to emphasize your star graduate taking off into the wild blue yonder! Fairytale castle All little girls like fairytales where the princess lives in a fairytale castle. Design your little princess a scrapbook page where she is the Queen of the castle. You could paste her picture at the very top. To make scrapbooking paper piecing patterns of castles, copy a view of the Disney castle or any other castles preferred found on the Internet to your computer. To copy any image, right click over the chosen picture and select "save as" and it will be saved to the computer. Print out a copy of the castle image you want to use in the scrapbook layout. You are turning the picture into a puzzle of sorts where the pieces will be fitted back together. It is up to you to choose whatever size pieces you want to use depending on the size of the completed castle. For example, if you were designing a 6 x 8 album, a 4 x 5 image would be ideal. Cut the patterns and paste to colored cardstock or patterned paper. Put windows in the castle for pasting photos of your daughter, her friends, or pets looking out. Add embellishments for the finishing touch. Try your hand at scrapbooking paper piecing patterns!
